"Textile Name:Oharame festival at Ohara"
Oharame are women who vended in Kyoto city, wearing indigo-dying working clothes and carrying firewood on their heads. In this festival, women who dress in various working clothes of various periods march from Shorin-in temple by Sanzen-in to Jakkoji temple.
They march through greenery in spring, and through full bloomed cosmos in autumn.
October's painting is "Oharame festival" which is hold in the harvest season. Oharame is a tradition in Ohara, that women carry firewood on their heads and go around to sell it to a town. It is known for that costume; indigo kimono and a red sash. In this festival, women who are in various costumes of various eras walk around.
We used shiso (Japanese basil),which is Ohara's product, in this month's confections. These are made of sweetened white bean paste mixed with juice of chirimen aka-shiso (the most similar shiso to the original one which arrived in Japan). One is coated with "Yukari®" (red shiso dried and grinded up) and the other is wrapped with shiso leaves.
