"Washi paper making experience / Mitsuru Yamada"
I went to the Washi Club near Nijo Castle to try out making Japanese paper.
The experience took place in a corner of the store, where a variety of Japanese paper accessories and miscellaneous goods such as goshuin notebooks, envelopes, and letter paper were lined up in a small space.
First, we will hear an explanation of the raw materials, kozo (paper mulberry) and tororoaoi (a type of holly), the tools used in papermaking, called suketa (a type of papermaking mat), and the process of hand-making.
Now all that's left is to put it into practice.
Remembering the staff's instructions, I followed their example and shook the bamboo screen until it was evenly distributed inside the frame...
Squeeze out the water with a vacuum cleaner, paint your desired pattern on it, and then dry out the remaining water in a special dryer...
SO-SU-U 5-Color(There are only four colors) and it's finished.
continue,LettersI also challenge.
I thought it came out well, but it turned out a lot sparser than I expected.
There was no limit to the number of sheets we could make, so for about an hour we made paper to our heart's content, without worrying about the quality of the results.
It seems to be popular among children as part of school trips, lessons, and kindergarten and nursery school experience classes.
Starting this June, we will also be offering a "Papermaking + Japanese Binding Experience" that can be enjoyed by both children and adults.
It was a fulfilling experience.
