One day story / Small talks from SOU · SOU Producer Takeshi Wakabayashi
"Episode 63 / Snowflakes Aperture"
There was one more thing I suggested to Mr. Tabata. It was "Plate-tightening Snowflakes squeezing".
Snowflakes-shibori is a very popular shibori technique that can be seen on Yukata special pages, but at that time, Harisho Zheng was the only shibori manufacturer in Japan to make a living in Arimatsu, Nagoya. It was only.
Of course, Snowflakes squeezing has been around for a long time, but nobody in the industry recognized its value, and only Mr. Harisho was doing it.
However, when I visited Harisho 's workshop for the first time, I thought, "This is the only one!" For details, please refer to the Japan Brand Project, but the point is that the pattern is fresher and more modern than other shibori, and it is suitable for mass production because it can be made with relatively simple technology, and there is no product made in China (at that time).
Now that more than 90% of the iris is made in China, I thought that the Snowflakes iris was a chance to protect domestic production at the same time without suffering from price collapse.
Also, although the Snowflakes diaphragm is very cute, as mentioned above, it was not known to the world at all at that time. In fact, even if you look at the catalog of all Yukata before the SOU・SOU Japan brand project, you will not be able to find the Snowflakes aperture. That's why I wanted Mr. Tabata to master the technique and help spread the Snowflakes to the world.
Mr. Tabata was originally a Kyoto Kanoko Seed Stitch Shibori craftsman. He must have been perplexed when he was suddenly told to do squeezing in a different field.
But what's amazing about him is that he just tried, Layering, Layering, and mastered it all by himself. And now, I think "Snowflakes" has become the main pillar of Tabata Tie-dye.
Even so, Mr. Tabata is a motivated craftsman.
The dyeing industry is in decline, but I think that the people involved are largely responsible for that. It's not because of Era or the world. It's clear when you look at the rapid growth of Growth Tabata Tie-dye. I hope that in the future, you will think about the next generation and work hard to develop human resources.
