Takashima City in Shiga Prefecture, often called "Textile City", is the premier producer of "Takashima Chizimi".
With a history extending over 200 years, this fabric is well known with its uneven texture.
It is breathable in summer and ideal for winter as the strongly twisting process during weaving provides air layers to retain heat.

「高島縮」は高温多湿な日本の風土に適した被服素材として、江戸時代より200年以上もの長きにわたって受け継がれてきました。

Takashima city in Shiga Prefecture is located in the northwestern part of Lake Biwa. Blessed with abundant water resources, it is well known of its fabric craft. Chizimi cotton is produced in Takashima city with over 200 year history since Edo period. Its characteristics is best suits for humid and hot summer in Japan.

サラリとしたシャリ感が特長の高島縮。その秘密は、シボと呼ばれる表面の凹凸にあります。糸の撚りや織りの配列、型押しなどによって作られるシボが極上の肌触りを生み出し、ステテコなどの肌着を中心に広まりました。
Chizimi Cotton features a sharp and light feeling. The secret is in the crepe and jagged surface. The texture made by a special twisting, weaving and embossing of yarn. This soft touching and breathable cotton is widely use as inner and steteco pants.
