"Tea Lessons / Fu Rui Wen"
Hello everyone who is reading Word by Word, My name is Lala (傅蕊雯) from Hong Kong and I belong to netshop.
I'm not very good at anything, but I love learning about Japan.
I have had some light exposure to the Japanese language, sake, and Japanese calligraphy.
After coming to Kyoto, I finally had the opportunity to learn about representative Japanese culture.
It's the tea ceremony!
For the first six months or so, I just acted as a guest and drank tea while watching the other staff prepare the tea.
I am currently taking part in lessons together with Shop Manager Seno and Mr. Naganuma, and as they are both senior members of my team, just watching them is fun and feels good.
(Left) For this lesson, we will be displaying a scroll by Rikyu, with gentian and mizuhiki flowers.
(Right) This is the tea that Naganuma prepared with great care.
Sorry for being a total amateur at this, but
The charm of the tea ceremony is that the tea bowls, tea utensils, sweets, scrolls, flowers, etc. are all different every time.
It seems that Japanese people value the almanac and the four seasons.
A Japanese sweet called "Tsuyushigure" contains maple leaves and a rice bowl decorated with a bellflower.
There are many words I've never heard before and I often forget them if I don't take notes, but I'm grateful to have the opportunity to learn about Japanese culture and old customs.
It sometimes reminds me of SOU・SOU 's Textile designs and products.
Recently I have been doing the tea ceremony.
I still make a lot of mistakes, but I'm slowly learning, and sometimes my body moves on its own, which is very strange.
And I remembered one episode.
During my training, when I was working at the cash register, I was in a hurry and couldn't wrap the items properly.
"How can you move as efficiently as everyone else?" I asked my seniors.
Adachi told us, "If you go to tea ceremony lessons, you will gradually eliminate unnecessary movements."
Yes. Even if it doesn't seem to be related
In reality, many things are connected and nothing in life is wasted.
Finally,,,
I asked Naganuma-san to take some photos, and this is what ended up in my phone's photo library.
Naganuma-san is so cute, taking pictures to the best of her ability! Thank you for taking so many pictures.

They have a greater devotion to Japanese culture than Japanese people.
Lala's calligraphy is done with such gentle hands. I am still in the copying stage, but I am enjoying learning. The scent of the ink, the sound of pouring hot water in the silence, etc. sharpen the five senses and eliminate all unnecessary things. A beautiful tea ceremony has no unnecessary movements. I still have a long way to go... (sigh) I practice Ogasawara-style sencha, but I am glad that I have continued with flower arrangement and calligraphy.
Thank you for your comment, Shiropon.
It's all beginner level so it's very embarrassing...
Shiropon-sama, you are also learning various aspects of Japanese traditional culture. It's a long road, but I think it's wonderful that you can continue doing it.
It's a deep world, but let's enjoy it together!
