Natural Indigo Stencil Yuzen Dyeing
Japanese people have been familiar with indigo dyeing since the Edo period. It is also known as "Japan Blue", a name which became widespread. This blue color, originally came from indigo, is used in many occasions as a symbol of Japan, such as in the uniforms of the Japanese national soccer team.
Generally, indigo dyeing is mainly done by immersion. In contrast, Ainasen expresses patterns using stencil dyeing. It is now possible to express fine lines and intensities that were not possible with indigo dyeing before. SOU・SOU's textile designs, which are expressed using this world-first technique, are a unique way to enjoy indigo.

A World's First
Founded 90 years ago. Fujitasenen is a Kyoto dyeing company that has inherited the traditional techniques of Kyoto-style Yuzen. Ainasen was made possible when Fujitasenen, in collaboration with the Kyoto City Dyeing Testing Center, developed a plant-based printing paste that is compatible with indigo pigments.
-
Made from Genuine Indigo
Currently, chemical pigments are the mainstream of indigo dyeing, but ainasen is made from natural indigo, a dye that has been passed down since ancient times. You can enjoy the original beauty of indigo dyeing and the natural fading of the color.
-
Expressing Shades through Shapes
By dyeing the shapes with stencils, it is possible to express fine lines and patterns. SOU・SOU's textile, which are expressed by changing the intensities of the blue, are a unique way to enjoy Ainasen.

The technique that laid the foundation of Kyo-Yuzen 90 years ago Kyo Yuzen has its roots in dyeing techniques that have been handed down since the 8th century, and originated from the hand-painted Yuzen that was established in the 17th century by Miyazaki Yuzensai, who was popular as a fan painter at that time. Fujitasenen is called Yuzen, which is a Yuzen technique of dyeing using a mold and colored glue. Yuzen dyed by craftsmen is dyed with one pattern per color, so Kimono, more than 100 patterns may be used.
