Revive of Japan Made Tabi Shoes

Marugo Co., Ltd. was founded in Kurashiki, Okayama Prefecture in 1919, a footwear maker which has a history of more than 90 years. In 1917, Marugo started its footwear business by producing "sewing type tabi shoes" which uses the tires of the rickshaw as a material.
This is the first domestic made footwear series of Marugo Co., Ltd., which has revived for the first time in about 40 years. Using high quality Japan made body fabric and soles, presenting a brand new Tabi Shoes series in Reiwa period.

The factory at the time

Founder Futaki Itaro

Maru Five Co., Ltd. was founded in Kurashiki, Okayama Prefecture in 1919, a footwear manufacturer which has a history of more than 90 years.
Early in the Meiji Period, founders Fujiki Itaro was making cotton tabi socks using fabric that was mainly produced in Kurashiki. In 1917, he created a new type if tabi shoes "sewing type tabi" which sewed with tires of the rickshaw and started manufacturing. In 1919, he established Maruyoshi Co., Ltd. with five friends.

This is the first domestic made footwear series of Marugo Co., Ltd., which has revived for the first time in about 40 years.
Using high quality Japan made body fabric and soles, presenting a brand new Tabi Shoes series in Reiwa period.

Based on Marugo's "sewing type tabi" invented at the time of its foundation, the soles' toes, heels, and soles have been redesigned to SOU・SOU original models.

Produced with original wooden mold. With a cute round shape and redesigned sole.

Considering the impact on the heel and knee by long distance walking, tabi shoes is adapted with PORON insole. High density, extremely fine and uniform cell structure, it is a highly functional urethane insole and excellent in vibration absorption.

The fabric used for the Body is "First Class Unsai", which was made by craftsmen in the 1930s with their wisdom and technique. The same loom used by Marugo Co., Ltd. for the first time in the tabi socks, "Hoshizakura Unsai", but with a higher number of hammers and increased strength, plus water resistance.
